International Women’s Day; A Company for Women

International Women’s Day is today, March 8th, 2019. In that spirit I wanted to share this story of mine, a woman, who changed the trajectory of her life. Over six years ago I joined this wonderful company just for a little extra as I had a full time corporate job in the medical field. I even had a team of employees under me and it was a pretty hectic and stressful position and I found my business to be a fun thing “just” for me. As with many corporate companies we merged and had some major changes within the organization. It did not feel like the place I had started at and the work was no longer fulfilling but just extremely stressful and that was passed to my husband and children most days, not intentionally of course. Although I was miserable, I earned a VERY nice salary so I couldn’t just walk away. I saw others successful in my business and thought to myself, “if they can do this FT, so can I.” That was my “AHA” moment as we Direct Sellers call it. That was January 2014. In August of 2016, I handed in my notice to the company I had been with over ten years, with the blessing of my husband, after ensuring I had built my business enough to let go of that salary (no more childcare costs helped a tad with that). It’s now March 2019, and I have enjoyed earning a good income, three exotic vacations (all free), endless goodies, lots of rewards and recognition, lots of traveling, and have made some of the best friends I have ever known in my loyal customers and my fabulous teammates. If you had told me in 2012 I would no longer be in a corporate position and doing my little side hustle FT, I would have laughed hysterically right in your face. Little did I know at that time what that small investment would mean for me later. What if $25 could completely change your life??  I cannot promise you can quit your job or earn FT, that’s up to you, but I can show you how I did. If you need to pay a bill or need a change in career or anything in between, I’d love to chat!

Summer Shenanigans

Wow, it has been a while!  But time flies when you’re having fun!  What a wild year it has been so far.  I can’t believe it’s already the middle of summer.  The fun started with an all expense paid cruise for two to Bermuda on the huge and beautiful Anthem of the Seas!  It’s amazing to have been able to treat my hubby to this as it was only a week after our 16th Wedding Anniversary!

And it was just for doing what I love!  It was definitely a fun and amazing experience for our first cruise!  And we ported in Bermuda for a night and walked around the island as well as took a boat tour that had a lot of rum involved!  Needless to say, I felt like a pirate after that!  We also got a kiss under the Moongate to make a wish as it was legend there it meant a long and happy life together! And that is our ship in the background!  Part of it, anyway.

I was super shocked to receive recognition as well, as you can see by the look on my face!  I was in the top ten of reps who earned the trip for new title advancements, which means my team is fabulous and they really deserved the award!  But I was very happy to accept it on their behalf and it was wonderful to share that moment with my hubby!  That’s him in the hat behind me!

After that whirlwind five-night cruise, we returned to reality to wrap up May.  We had end of year activities for the kids including my son’s graduation from elementary school!  I can’t believe I have a child entering middle school!  It even felt weird typing that out!  But he received several awards at his ceremony and was in the top two in his class for math and science!  Proud parent moment for sure!  We are so proud of him!  And our baby girl isn’t a baby anymore!  She is still in elementary but growing so fast!

Speaking of awards, my President’s Recognition Program Luncheon was the day after the Fifth Grade Ceremony and I unexpectedly cleaned up!  I ended up with seven new statuettes, some for sales and some for the team, as well as a certificate for my sales title increase, and a few other goodies for different achievements.  It was a wonderful and heart-filling day!  My mentor even drove all the way up to be with me!  That just made it even more special!

After school let out, we have enjoyed some time at the lake, some time at the pool, and some time with friends, with a little work mixed in of course!  It definitely is a perk to be able to set your own schedule and hit the lake on a Tuesday at 11am!  No crowds!

lakeday

I will say this, I normally use our DEET Free Expedition aerosol spray for a bug repellent and sunblock, but at the lake it is super windy so I grabbed one of the DEET Free Bug Guard Plus Lotions and oh-em-gee is this stuff amazeballs!  My daughter has very sensitive skin and we have had a hard time finding sun block that didn’t break her out and my son is so fair-skinned he normally burns no matter how much we reapply.  But, we spent three hours at the lake one afternoon and she did not get any reapplication and was not burnt at all AND didn’t have any rash from the SPF!  My son got reapplied once in the three hour time and didn’t get burnt (seriously he is much more pale than the rest of us so I didn’t want to risk it).  The bottle does say waterproof for 80 minutes, so to make it stretch the way we did is a huge deal for him and his pastiness!  Most sunblock that says 80 minutes doesn’t even last 30 on him in the water!  The fact is smells good and also repels mosquitoes and no-see-ums as well as many other icky creatures is a plus!

Besides our water play I have enjoyed some fresh made French Toast courtesy of my son the budding chef!  He also has whipped up grilled cheese for his sister a few times!  They have gotten along brilliantly this summer to be together so much!

He has weaseled his way out of several errands and deliveries but my baby girl enjoys riding around with me!  In fact, it’s only during the summer months that she gets to do that with me as well as going to my mentor’s meetings.  During the school year it is just too late for her to be out so I always promise to take her during the summer.  The last time we went down, there were some storms but she was able to see her first rainbow in person ever, and it was a double rainbow at that!  She enjoys being around all my teammates and adores my mentor so I love when I can take her with me.

I was able to help my momma after her knee surgery and my teammates and customers were amazing and patient with me.  She of course rocked that surgery is already released from physical therapy and about to take her second trip to Gulfport post-op!  Her surgery was only in mid-May and she has already traveled TWICE!  It was such a blessing to not worry about a job and just be with my mom since she has always been there for me.  My sister was a huge help, especially the first week, and of course Dad was there in the evenings to take care of her and took her to some appointments because he wanted to.  Other than that, it’s been business as usual working from home most days and getting out to talk to folks others.  The cat always seems irritated with me when I am on the phone a lot during the day; this is his face all day until my hubby gets home!

tango

We were able to catch a few Braves game this year as a family and we love that!  One was 15 innings, though, and we were delirious by the time it was over!  Fun memories, though!

We still have a little bit of summer left, but it sure is flying by.  I will say, my second summer as a work-from-home-momma has been much smoother and more fun!  I will try to not be so delayed on my next installment of Beauty Boss Momma, but glad to catch you all up!

Dry and bitter…

No, that is not my attitude!  Although I realize I have been gone for a minute, I am actually hydrated and sweet!  But the weather outside is frightful, dry, and you guessed it, bitter cold!  Some folks love the winter months and I normally do until we hit single digits, especially for more than one day!  We even got snow-in Georgia-in December.  That just doesn’t happen.

IMG_1980

I grew up in the south where December may still yield short sleeves and flip flops so when we got over a foot of snow before Christmas I was in shock!  And even worse than dealing with our power going out and the endless amount of wet clothes the kids kept throwing off is the extreme dry skin!

I normally have oily skin so if my skin gets dry, you know the air is bone dry.  Weird how cold wetness can make the air feel so dry!  But as you burn fires and run the furnace indoors, that sucks the moisture right out of the air!  So how to you combat it?  I mean, we can’t have dry skin because dry skin leads to premature wrinkles and who needs that?

A non-drying cleanser with no soap and no alcohol is a great start.  This is my favorite here.  Then, this is a great time for a gentle but regular exfoliating to keep any dry flaky skin at bay.  I love this daily scrub and it is very gentle but definitely creates a soft smooth face!  Plus, a good exfoliation only aides in the use of treatments and moisturizers.  These items can get soaked up by dry or dead skin before making it to your face so exfoliation is double important!

Cleansers

After a soft cleanse, I have switched up my routine to the Power Serum to help not only even tone and minimize pores but to give my treatments and moisturizer a boost!  I am loving the Advanced Wrinkle Corrector right now because while most products don’t do double-duty, this does!  It acts as a clinical treatment AND a moisturizer all in one jar!  And to be so awesome, it’s not harsh and doesn’t have a terrible medicine smell!

Of course the whole routine is complete with the Eye Lift Pro to keep my lids lifted and those crows feet at bay!  I hope you are staying warm and enjoying the weather like I am, from inside by the fireplace with some hot coffee early and chilled wine later!  Maybe if I change it to a margarita I can pretend I’m at the warm beach??

Sunny days

Well, we had a pretty wet and cloudy start to the summer!  But, even though we have had a good bit of rain showers and thunderstorms we have had a decent amount of sunny days!  I know I send the kids outside anytime I see a break in the clouds because it’s hard to say how long it will last!  I try to get some vitamin D as well and like most moms I am all about the Bug Guard and SPF!  I also use a day cream with SPF and during the summer months I switch to a day lotion with SPF 50, the Skinvincible, for my face to stay moisturized, keep my foundation looking good, and keep the bad rays away!

I also must use shades outside because my eyes are super sensitive to light, the curse of the light blue eyes!  But even with my sunglasses, I tend to squint when I am outside.  I also have been laughing a lot this summer!  It’s been so much fun with the kids and friends and my biz that I have been gut-laughing a lot!  But with all this sun-squinting and laughter, I have to be mindful of that delicate skin around my eyes and the dreaded crows feet!

But Anew to the rescue!  One of the staples in my regimen is the Clinical Eye Lift Pro Dual Eye System!  This is part of our clinical line but specially formulated for the skin around your eyes.  But better than just an eye cream, this one packs a one-two punch!

There is a cream for under the eye, around the top of the cheek bone, and next to the eye area to keep the lines at bay and fight any existing ones.  But there is also a super special gel that you apply to the top of the lid and brow bone.  This gel keeps that area lifted and tight giving super definition to the upper eye and brow!  I also learned a trick from a very successful and ageless rep that if you keep this product in the fridge, it is very refreshing after a long, hot day! It will have all the normal benefits, but also has a fabulous cooling effect on those tired eyes when it’s cold!  So do yourself a favor and check into adding this little gem to your skincare routine to tackle those stubborn areas around the eye instead of trying not to smile or go outside!  Click here to grab it or click here to take the skincare quiz to find the best products for you!  Happy summer!
